Freddie Gibbs Lyrics - Singles & Featured

English 15 January 1, 2004

Freddie Gibbs, the acclaimed American rapper, embarked on his musical journey in 2004 with the self-release of his inaugural full-length project, the mixtape "Full Metal Jackit." Following its success, he swiftly followed up with a sequel later that year. During this period, Gibbs inked a deal with Interscope Records, marking the beginning of his mainstream exploration. Despite initially working on his debut album, the collaboration was short-lived, as Gibbs faced a setback when the pivotal figure who signed him, Joe Weinberger, departed from the label in late 2006.

Undeterred, Gibbs continued to carve his path, unleashing the extended play "Str8 Killa" in August 2010, showcasing his evolving artistry. The subsequent years saw him self-releasing mixtapes until 2011, when he found a new home under Young Jeezy's record label, CTE World. In an exciting turn of events, Gibbs joined forces with King Chip and The Cool Kids to form the supergroup Pulled Over by the Cops (P.O.C.) in February of that year.

Gibbs didn't pause for breath, dropping the mixtape "Cold Day in Hell" in October 2011, attracting attention with notable guest appearances. The mixtape garnered acclaim from esteemed publications like Pitchfork and XXL, solidifying Gibbs' rising status in the hip-hop scene.

Collaborating with the esteemed hip-hop producer Madlib, Gibbs released the extended plays "Thuggin'" and "Shame" in 2011 and 2012, respectively. These EPs served as tantalizing previews for their much-anticipated collaborative album, initially titled "Cocaine Piñata" and later simplified to "Piñata."

Notably, Gibbs' versatility was on full display with the Gangsta Grillz mixtape "Baby Face Killa," dropping on September 25, 2012. Boasting an impressive lineup of guest appearances, including Pharrell Williams and Jadakiss, the mixtape showcased Gibbs' ability to seamlessly collaborate across the hip-hop spectrum. One of its tracks, "Still Livin'," even found a spot on the soundtrack of the highly popular video game "Grand Theft Auto V," further solidifying Gibbs' influence in the cultural landscape.
