Alicia Augello Cook (born January 25, 1981) was born in New York City, United States. She is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. She is professionally known as Alicia Keys. Keys began composing songs at the young age of 12 and was signed by Columbia Records at just 15 years old.

However, she later left the label due to disputes and signed with Arista Records before releasing her debut album, Songs in A Minor, in 2001 with J Records. The album was both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, selling over 12 million copies globally. The lead single from the album, "Fallin'", topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and the album garnered Keys five Grammy Awards in 2002.

Her second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, released in 2003, was equally successful, selling eight million copies worldwide. The album produced several hit singles, including "You Don't Know My Name," "If I Ain't Got You," and "Diary," earning Keys an additional four Grammy Awards.

Keys is one of the best-selling music artists in the world, and her success is reflected in the Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA) list of best-selling artists in the United States, having sold over 17.8 million albums and 21.9 million digital songs. With over 30 million albums sold worldwide, her singles "No One" and "Empire State of Mind" are also amongst the list of best-selling singles globally.

She was the best-selling new artist and best-selling R&B artist in 2001, having attained 4 Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles from 9 top-ten singles, as well as eight Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Airplay number-one singles.

Keys set a Guinness World Record in 2008 for becoming the first artist to replace herself at number one with "No One" and "Like You'll Never See Me Again."

Keys has been honored with numerous awards, including 15 Grammy Awards, 17 NAACP Image Awards, 9 Billboard Music Awards, and 7 BET Awards. She became the second female artist to win 5 Grammy Awards in one night in 2002.

In 2005, Keys was awarded the Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award, which honors gifted songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry through their original songs. That year, ASCAP also awarded Keys Songwriter of the Year at its Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.

In 2014, Fuse ranked her as the thirteenth-most awarded musician of all time. In 2020, Pollstar listed Keys among the top female artists of the 21st century in the concert industry, with over 1.7 million tickets sold and earnings exceeding $111.5 million.
