In 2011, when he was just 16, he signed with the Chicago-based record label Machine Entertainment Group. This label helped him release his first mixtape, "Welcome to Fazoland," in 2014. Later that same year, he released another mixtape called "Pistol P Project." Over the next few years, he continued to release more mixtapes like "Ballin Like I'm Kobe" in 2015 and "Strictly 4 My Fans" in 2016.

G Herbo's first studio album, "Humble Beast," came out in 2017 through Cinematic Music Group. This album was praised by many critics. In 2018, he worked with a record producer named Southside to release "Swervo," which was his first major label release through Epic Records. They also released a sequel called "Still Swervin" in 2019. His third album, "PTSD," was released in 2020 and reached the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart. His fourth and fifth albums, "25" in 2021 and "Survivor's Remorse" in 2022, also did very well, with "25" being his first project with Republic Records.

G Herbo grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Hyde Park Academy High School but dropped out when he was 16. He was influenced by other rappers like Meek Mill, Jeezy, Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti, and Lil Wayne. He is good friends with another rapper named Lil Bibby, and they have worked on many songs together. Both G Herbo and Lil Bibby are part of a group called N.L.M.B., which stands for "Never Leave My Brothers" and "No Limit Muskegon Boys." G Herbo has said that N.L.M.B. is more like a brotherhood than a gang.

In 2018, G Herbo helped redevelop a former elementary school in Chicago called Anthony Overton Elementary School. His goal was to provide young people with equipment and programs that could help them become musicians and stay out of trouble. In July 2020, he started an initiative called "Swervin' Through Stress," which provides Black youths with mental health resources over a 12-week course. This project was inspired by his own experiences and the trauma faced by others in his community. G Herbo has said that he wants to use his resources to help his neighborhood and city. He believes it is important to be honest and make a difference.
