Michał Matczak (born July 14, 2000) was born in Wrocław, Poland. He is a Polish rapper, singer and songwriter. He is professionally known as Mata.he is the son of the renowned lawyer Marcin Matczak, who played a pivotal role in shaping his artistic identity.
In 2019, Michał completed his International Baccalaureate (IB) exams at the Stefan Batory Bilingual High School in Warsaw. During this period, he presented an essay titled "The Evolution of Jacek Graniecki's Lyrics (aka 'Tede') from 2001 to 2015 as a Representative Example of Linguistic Changes in the Poetics of Rap." This demonstrated his keen interest in analyzing and understanding the progression of rap lyrics over time.
In October 2018, he made his debut in the music scene with the EP "FUMAR MATA," which gained significant attention. In April 2019, the EP was reissued by HHNS Label, further boosting his recognition. The release caught the attention of SBM Label owners, Solar and Białas, and soon after, Michał participated in the SBM Starter campaign. This campaign aimed to promote young rap talents, and Michał showcased his single "Biblioteka Trap," which resonated with the audience.
Michał's breakthrough came with the release of his track "Patointeligencja," which garnered immense praise from both the music industry and listeners. It was featured in a playlist and his image appeared on the cover of Tidal Rising Global shortly after its release, further solidifying his status as a rising star.
On January 17, 2020, Michał released his debut full-length album titled "100 dni do matury" (100 Days Until the Matura Exam). The album became the most-streamed album by a Polish artist on Spotify in 2020 and secured the 10th position among the best-selling albums in Poland that year. This remarkable achievement showcased Michał's ability to captivate a wide audience with his unique musical style.
In September 2020, Michał received four prestigious awards at the "Popkillery" hip-hop industry plebiscite, including "Discovery of the Year" and "Single of the Year." His talent and success continued to flourish, and by mid-February 2021, "100 dni do matury" achieved triple platinum status with an impressive 90,000 copies sold.
Recognizing his exceptional talent and contributions to the music industry, Michał was honored with the "Debut of the Year" award at the Lech Polish Hip-hop Music Awards on August 18. This further solidified his status as one of the most promising artists in the Polish rap scene.
Continuing his upward trajectory, Michał released his highly anticipated second studio album, "Młody Matczak" (Young Matczak), on October 1, 2021. The album was a resounding success and achieved diamond certification, joining his debut album, "100 dni do matury," in this prestigious category.
