176 French Rapper & Songwriter

Aurélien Cotentin (born August 1, 1982) was born in Alençon, Normandy, France. He is a French rapper, songwriter, record producer, actor, and film director who has made a name for himself in the music industry. He is professionally known as Orelsan. He has released four studio albums, starting with his debut album "Perdu d'avance" in 2009, followed by "Le chant des sirènes" in 2011, "La fête est finie" in 2017, and "Civilisation" in 2021.

Orelsan is also part of the French hip-hop duo Casseurs Flowters, along with Gringe. Together, they have released two studio albums: "Orelsan et Gringe sont les Casseurs Flowters" in 2013 and the original soundtrack for their 2015 film "Comment c'est loin."

Orelsan has been compared to American rap legend Eminem in the past, primarily because of their similar ability to switch between or combine violent and comical rapping techniques and because they are both prominent white rappers. However, Orelsan has developed a unique style that sets him apart from other artists in the industry.

Orelsan is widely regarded as one of the most iconic and important French songwriters and lyricists of his generation. He has a distinctive style of mixing humor and irony with heavy subjects and manages to reach a multigenerational audience and a much larger crowd of listeners than hardcore rap fans.

His third album "La fête est finie" has been certified double diamond, selling more than one million copies in France, and his latest album "Civilisation" was the No.1 selling music album in France for two consecutive years of 2021 and 2022.

In recognition of his contribution to the arts in France and beyond, Orelsan was awarded the title of "chevalier des Arts et des Lettres" (Knight of Arts and Letters) by the French Ministry of Culture in 2022. This honor is a testament to his exceptional talent, creativity, and influence in the music industry. Orelsan is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with and will continue to make a significant impact in the world of music and beyond.
