Alexander Eli Morand (born 1997) was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is a Canadian rapper. He is professionally known as Smiley. Smiley gained fame after he was signed by the prominent record label OVO Sound, founded by rapper Drake, and Warner Records.
He became well-known for his 2021 hit single "Over the Top," a collaboration with his label boss Drake, which reached number 57 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Smiley started his music career in 2014 when he began rapping with his crew, Garden Gang. He caught the attention of record producer Boi-1da with his 2015 track "9 on Me." His song "Garden Girl" further helped him gain popularity. Smiley's first interaction with Drake was in 2017, and he released his debut project "Bye or Bye" in 2018. In the same year, Drake referenced Smiley's lyrics during his first public statement following the release of diss track "The Story of Adidon" by rapper Pusha T.
In July 2021, Smiley released his single "Over the Top," a collaboration with Drake that was produced by American record producer Tay Keith.
