DeAndre Cortez Way (born July 28, 1990) was born in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. He is an American rapper and record producer. He is professionally known as Soulja Boy. He became famous with his debut single "Crank That (Soulja Boy)," which he released himself in 2007. This song was very popular and stayed on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for seven weeks, though not in a row. After the song was re-released by Collipark Music, a part of Interscope Records, it continued to be a big hit. This success led to his first album, "Souljaboytellem.com," also released in 2007. Even though many critics did not like the album, it still reached number four on the Billboard 200 chart. The album included another single called "Yahhh!"
In 2008, he released his second album, "iSouljaBoyTellem." This album had two popular songs: "Turn My Swag On" and "Kiss Me thru the Phone," which featured singer Sammie. These songs reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. While the album did okay in terms of sales, critics liked it even less than his first one. Despite this, in 2010, He earned $7 million, placing him at number 18 on the Forbes list of Hip-Hop Cash Kings.
His third album, "The DeAndre Way," came out in 2010. This album included the single "Pretty Boy Swag," which made it to the top 40. However, the album did not do well commercially, and Soulja Boy’s popularity continued to decline. After this, he left Interscope Records and decided to work independently.
He is known for his smart use of social media and digital marketing. He used these tools to become popular when he was just starting out. Besides making music, he has tried other things like developing video games and producing records for other artists. He also has his own record label called Stacks on Deck Entertainment. Through this label, he has signed other rappers such as Lil B and Riff Raff.
