XG (Xtraordinary Girls) is a Japanese girl group based in South Korea, formed by Xgalx, a subsidiary of Avex. The group consists of seven members: Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Juria, Cocona, Maya, and Harvey. They officially debuted on March 18, 2022, with their digital single "Tippy Toes". XG's social media presence kicked off on January 25, 2022, with a short introductory video titled "Xgalx – The Beginning," showcasing the group's training process.

Following this, they released a dance performance video directed by Choi Hyo-jin, renowned for her work on the Korean street dance TV show Street Woman Fighter. In the ensuing weeks, the group unveiled a variety of teaser content, including a rap cover of Rob Stone's "Chill Bill" by Jurin and Harvey, and a vocal cover of Justin Bieber's "Peaches" by Juria and Chisa. Solo dance performances by each member, highlighting their unique styles, were also posted on February 2.

The group’s debut single "Tippy Toes" marked their entry into the music scene, entirely in English. This was followed by their second English single, "Mascara," released on June 29, 2022. The release included their first television performance on South Korea's M Countdown. On November 17, XG gained significant attention with their rap cypher video "Galz Xypher," which went viral on TikTok, amassing 15 million views.

XG continued their momentum into 2023, releasing their third English single "Shooting Star" and its accompanying music video on January 25, along with an additional track, "Left Right." On March 6, they made history by entering the Mediabase US Radio Top 40, the first Japanese female group to achieve this feat. On June 30, they released "Grl Gvng," a pre-release single for their debut EP, New DNA. Subsequent pre-release singles "TGIF" and "New Dance" were released on August 4 and August 23, respectively. The debut EP, New DNA, was launched on September 27, featuring the lead single "Puppet Show." The EP achieved gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for exceeding 100,000 shipments.
