Oasis Lyrics - Singles & Featured

English 11 January 1, 1991

Oasis, a quintessential English rock band, emerged onto the music scene in 1991 under the moniker "The Rain," boasting a lineup of Liam Gallagher on lead vocals and tambourine, Paul Arthurs on guitar, Paul McGuigan on bass guitar, and Tony McCarroll on drums. Shortly after their inception, Liam's older brother, Noel Gallagher, joined as the fifth member, assuming the role of lead guitar and vocals. Noel swiftly became the creative force behind the band, penning songs that would define their sound across their first four albums. With their infectious melodies and anthemic choruses, Oasis swiftly became synonymous with the Britpop movement of the '90s.

Their breakthrough came in 1994 with the release of "Definitely Maybe," an instant chart-topper in the UK that propelled them to fame. The band's meteoric rise was accompanied by a high-profile rivalry with fellow Britpop heavyweights, Blur, culminating in a legendary chart battle. Despite losing that skirmish, Oasis ultimately triumphed, cementing their status as global icons with the release of "(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?" in 1995, featuring their iconic hit "Wonderwall."

However, internal strife plagued the band, particularly between the Gallagher brothers, leading to tensions that marred subsequent albums. "Be Here Now" (1997) and "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants" (2000) faced lukewarm receptions, despite commercial success. The departure of founding members Arthurs and McGuigan during the recording of "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants" marked a turning point, with Colin ‘Gem’ Archer and Andy Bell stepping in to fill their roles.

Despite lineup changes and critical scrutiny, Oasis persevered, releasing albums like "Heathen Chemistry" (2002) and "Don’t Believe the Truth" (2005), showcasing their enduring appeal. However, by 2009, the simmering tensions between Liam and Noel Gallagher erupted, leading to the band's dissolution. Post-Oasis, Noel formed Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, while Liam fronted Beady Eye until 2014 before embarking on a successful solo career, leaving behind a legacy as one of the defining acts of British rock history.
