Ghost Lyrics - Discography

401 Swedish Rock Band

Ghost is a Swedish rock band that formed in Linköping in 2006. They gained attention in 2010 with the release of their three-track demo and the 7-inch vinyl single "Elizabeth." Soon after, their debut full-length album, Opus Eponymous, was unleashed upon the world. This album received widespread acclaim and boosted their popularity, with the track "Ritual" even being recognized by Kerrang! as one of "The 50 Most Evil Songs Ever."

Following their initial success, Ghost released their second album and major label debut, Infestissumam, in 2013. The album achieved remarkable feats, debuting at number one in Sweden and earning them the prestigious Grammis Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Album. Ghost's third studio album, Meliora, arrived in 2015, reaching number one in Sweden and number eight in the US. The lead single from the album, "Cirice," not only became a fan favorite but also brought them the coveted Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2016.

In 2018, the band delighted fans with their fourth studio album, Prequelle. It showcased Ghost's musical evolution and added to their ever-growing discography. However, notable changes were afoot in the band's image and lore. Prior to this album, lead singer Tobias Forge had concealed his identity through various characters known as "Papa Emeritus," each depicted as a demonic anti-pope. For Prequelle and the subsequent A Pale Tour Named Death, Forge assumed a new persona called "Cardinal Copia," unrelated to the prior Papa Emeritus characters. This new character donned cardinal vestments or a black/white tuxedo, along with a mask featuring black eye makeup and multi-colored eyes, reminiscent of previous incarnations.

During the final show of A Pale Tour Named Death in March 2020, Cardinal Copia was promoted to the title of "Papa Emeritus IV." This persona has since been maintained by Forge for the band's fifth studio album, Impera, and its associated concert tour, Imperatour.

One of Ghost's distinctive features is their eccentric on-stage presence. The group consists of seven Nameless Ghouls, whose identities remain concealed behind virtually identical costumes. This mysterious ensemble adds an air of intrigue and theatricality to their live performances, captivating audiences worldwide.

With their captivating music, enigmatic imagery, and theatrical performances, Ghost continues to captivate fans and carve a unique niche in the rock music landscape. Their ability to blend catchy melodies, dark themes, and a dash of the macabre has established them as one of the most intriguing and innovative rock bands of recent times.
