Owl City is an American electronic music project created by Adam Young in 2007, in his parents' basement in Owatonna, Minnesota. The project gained its initial following through MySpace, a social networking site, which was a popular platform for aspiring musicians in the late 2000s. After releasing two independent albums, Owl City signed with Universal Republic Records, now known as Republic Records, in 2008.

The major-label debut album of Owl City, Ocean Eyes, was released in 2009 and gained significant mainstream popularity. The album, which includes the Diamond-certified single "Fireflies," was certified Platinum in the United States in April 2010. In January 2023, "Fireflies" achieved Diamond certification, which is a significant accomplishment for any musician.

In 2011, Owl City released its third studio album, All Things Bright and Beautiful, followed by The Midsummer Station in 2012. Owl City has also contributed to several animated films, including Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, Wreck-It Ralph, The Croods, and The Smurfs 2. In addition, the project has released several chart-topping singles, most notably "Good Time" and "Fireflies."
