Moriah Rose Pereira (born January 1, 1995) was born in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. She is a multifaceted artist who has gained fame as a singer, songwriter, YouTuber, and performance artist. She is professionally known as Poppy. In 2014, Poppy achieved viral success for her surreal performance art videos on YouTube, where she portrayed an android with an uncanny valley-like appearance. In these videos, she satirized and commented on internet culture and modern society, creating a unique brand for herself.
In 2015, Poppy signed a recording contract with Island Records, and in 2016, she released her debut pop EP, Bubblebath. The EP received critical acclaim and established Poppy as an up-and-coming artist in the music industry. In 2017, Poppy signed with Mad Decent and released her debut studio album, Poppy.Computer. The album consisted of art pop and bubblegum pop songs and showcased her creative vision and artistic versatility.
To promote Poppy.Computer, she embarked on the Poppy.Computer Tour, where she performed her music and showcased her innovative performance art. In 2018, Poppy released the pilot for the proposed surreal comedy online series, I'm Poppy, on YouTube Premium. She also released her second studio album, Am I a Girl? Poppy's evolution as an artist continued in 2020, when she signed to Sumerian Records and released her third studio album, I Disagree. This album incorporated heavy metal and industrial rock, and its lyrical themes and music videos were described as "disturbing," "violent," and "macabre" by some critics. As part of her long-time collaboration with professional wrestling promotion WWE and its NXT brand, Poppy released the metalcore EP Eat (NXT Soundtrack) in 2021.
