Andrew Taggart was born on December 31, 1989, in Portland, Maine. He started playing music at an early age and was a member of a band in high school. He attended Syracuse University, where he studied music business, and began DJing in college.

Alex Pall was born on May 16, 1985, in New York City. He attended New York University, where he studied art history and music business. Pall began DJing at the age of 19 and was working as a part-time art gallery assistant when he met Taggart.

The duo met through a mutual friend in 2012 and began collaborating on music. They released their first single, "Erase," in 2012, and followed it up with several successful remixes and original tracks. In 2014, they released "Selfie," which became a viral hit and propelled them to international fame.

Since then, The Chainsmokers have released numerous hit singles, including "Roses," "Don't Let Me Down," "Closer," and "Paris." They have collaborated with many popular artists, such as Halsey, Coldplay, and Daya.

The duo has won numerous awards for their music, including a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2017 for "Don't Let Me Down." They have also been nominated for several other Grammy Awards and have won multiple Billboard Music Awards.
